-----------------------------------------------
What is it?
-----------------------------------------------
FolderWasher was originaly designed to delete invisible ".DS_Store" files created by Mac OS X. When copying folders from Mac OS X to Windows, these files become visible... and annoying - see below.

In the same way, FolderWasher deletes all files whose name begin with period. If you don't want some files beginning with period to be deleted, add them to the Exceptions List.
Warning: files are permanently deleted - not just moved to the trash - and cannot be recovered.

In addition, FolderWasher offer the ability to zip compress folders in order to prevent the creation of deleted invisible files.

Just drop folder onto FolderWasher's icon, or onto FolderWasher's main window if it is already opened.

-----------------------------------------------
Requirements
-----------------------------------------------
FolderWasher runs with any OS X intel-based Macintosh, Windows 7 to 10 on PC.

The Windows version of FolderWasher is actually not supported. Though, it has been successfully tested and works correctly.
If you encounter problems, make sure to run FolderWasher in "administrator mode" (by right-clicking on the executable, and selecting "Run as administrator").

If for any reason - main window is out of your screen for example - you can reset all options by typing CMD-Y (or CTRL-Y with Windows).

Notes about .DS_Stores files
-----------------------------------------------
.DS_Stores are hidden files are created by the Mac OS X Finder to keep track of folders view options, icon positions, and other visual informations about folders. A separate .DS_Store file is created in each directory to store information about that directory, so you'll find them appearing all over the directory tree, in pretty much every folder you've visited with the OS X Finder.

When a new directory is accessed using the OS X Finder, a .DS_Store file will be created in that directory. Once the directory is viewed using the Finder a hidden .DS_Store file will be permanently created in that directory. Currently, the option to create a .DS_Store file can not be disabled in OS X settings.

So having hidden .DS_Store file is completely normal but when copying folders from Mac OS X to Windows, these files become visible and annoying. Furthermore, users should be concerned about .DS_Store files being uploaded to the web servers. Since .DS_Store files contain some vital folder information they can be exploited to obtain information about system configurations.

FolderWasher can delete ALL files beginning with a period (except the ones listed bu user in the built-in Exceptions List. Be aware that some special system files, located in System and Library folders (and subfolders) must not be deleted!
